Drug Manufacturing
Drug Manufacturing Lawyer Defending Against Charges of Manufacturing in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Throughout Michigan
Manufacturing drugs is a crime that is taken very seriously in the state of Michigan. At Grabel & Associates, our Michigan drug crime defense attorneys provide vigorous, effective defense for those who have been arrested for the cultivation or manufacture of illegal drugs. Both state and federal governments frown on this activity; the penalties if convicted are severe. In fact, individuals may face decades in prison or even life, depending upon the size of the operation, the type of drug or substance involved, and other factors. It is imperative that you obtain the services of a capable, aggressive lawyer even if you are under investigation and have not yet been charged with a crime.
Substantial Penalties for Manufacturing Drugs in Michigan
The federal government has established minimum penalties for individuals convicted of manufacturing or cultivating drugs, or maintaining "grow houses." Seizure of property and hefty fines may be imposed in addition to prison time. Individuals who are found to be growing a single marijuana plant may face felony charges that result in substantial jail time. Our Michigan drug manufacturing defense lawyers know the tactics used by police and prosecutors to obtain the most severe sentencing possible; you must have a talented attorney who will fight back effectively, securing the best possible outcome on your behalf.
Michigan Drug Penalties for the Manufacture of Schedule 1 or 2 Drugs
Certain drugs (cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, methamphetamines, morphine, opium) are considered schedule one and schedule two drugs; those arrested for manufacturing, creating, delivering or with the intent to manufacture or distribute these drugs face severe criminal penalties according to the Michigan Penal Code ( 333.7401). Examples of these penalties include:
- Any amount of methamphetamine or MDMA (ecstasy). Maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or $25,000 fine.
- Cocaine, less than 50 grams. Maximum penalty 20 years in prison and/or $25,000 fine.
- Any mixture containing illicit substance of an amount between 50 and 450 grams (felony offense). Up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
- Any mixture containing illicit substance of an amount between 450 and 1,000 grams (felony offense). Up to 30 years in prison and fines of up to $500,000.
As you can see, the penalties for manufacturing/cultivating illegal drugs are severe. We know the damaging impact being convicted on these types of charges have to individuals' lives. Not only will your reputation and career be ruined, you will likely face a lengthy prison sentence, steep fines and a permanent criminal record. Manufacturing meth, ecstasy and other drugs or growing marijuana will make you a prime target of law enforcement.
Whether you have been charged with drug cultivation (maintaining a meth lab, etc.) or growing marijuana for purposes other than medical use, it is essential that you have capable legal representation, regardless of your innocence or guilt. It is now legal in the state of Michigan to grow marijuana for medical purposes, but it remains to be a federal crime, and you may be an innocent target if this is in fact the case in your situation.
